The Mind Projected Cinema (what you see is what you think and what you think is what you see) Part 1

Tuesday 24 June – Sunday 6 July 2008
10:00—18:00

The Fishslab Gallery, Oxford Street

For The Mind Projected Cinema, Mike Chavez-Dawson created a temporary, cinema-inspired environment. The cinema did not show films, but asked audiences to collaborate with the artist in a series of unique performances.

The performances combined the skills of a local hypnotist and the artist’s own ability to visualise an entire film from memory. Participants were asked to take part in these mind projections, summoning up films in which Peter Cushing starred, including Star Wars, She, Dr Who and the Daleks and The Curse of Dracula.

The mind projection performances were filmed and shown in the cinema space during the Biennale. Each participant in the performance received an original Rorschach painting of their own name, made by the artist.
