Sally O’Reilly & Mel Brimfield
The mess tent performance programme

Saturday 3 June – Sunday 18 June 2006
10:00—18:00

Museum and various locations around town

The mess tent was the operational headquarters for the Whitstable Biennale 2006 performance programme. For two weeks, Sally O’Reilly and Mel Brimfield took up residency in a large army mess tent, planning events and discussing ideas with artists and visitors.

At the weekends packed programmes of performances took place, while during the week a more informal set of collaborations operated from the mess tent, including workshops with the Sea Scouts and a collaboration with local oral historians, which culminated in a guided walk around Whitstable on 17 June at 2pm.

Visitors were invited to drop into the mess tent to find out more about the performance programme, make suggestions and discuss performance ideas, deposit anecdotes about the history of Whitstable, pick-up sticks of rock from Resonance FM and take part in spontaneous performance events.
