Artist Kieren Reed is collaborating with people from Sittingbourne and further afield to create a functional artwork for Milton Creek Country Park, Sittingbourne.
In summer 2019 the barn will be ‘raised’ by the community, an act of theatre for participants and spectators, with the lifting of the largest sections of timber and the performance of other traditional construction rituals, including ‘topping out’ and a feast on-site at the end of each working day.
Over 2018/2019 participants are coming together for events, and will be trained in self-build techniques, use of tools, carpentry and construction processes.
On Saturday 21st April 2018 the first public conversation was held at No 34, High Street, Sittingbourne, exploring potential designs and future uses for the Sittingbourne Barn.
