Artist Kieren Reed is collaborating with people from Sittingbourne and further afield to create a functional artwork for Milton Creek Country Park, Sittingbourne.
In summer 2019 the barn will be ‘raised’ by the community, an act of theatre for participants and spectators, with the lifting of the largest sections of timber and the performance of other traditional construction rituals, including ‘topping out’ and a feast on-site at the end of each working day.
Over 2018/2019 participants are coming together for events, and will be trained in self-build techniques, use of tools, carpentry and construction processes.
In 2018 a co-design workshop was held as part of Milton Creek Country Park’s annual Art in the Park event. This drop-in workshop took place in the park where the barn will be sited, and pooled ideas for the creation of the Barn, and for its future use.
