Whitstable Biennale staged the 9th edition of the festival in June 2018. We commission ambitious and experimental new work by emerging artists, and support artists at a formative time in their career, creating inspiring experiences for audiences. Our innovative learning programme introduces people of all ages and backgrounds to contemporary art.
Our vision for the Biennale includes giving more emerging artists opportunities to develop their practice and career; reaching new audiences; working with more young people; increasing touring and international links; building research and academic partnerships, and achieving greater financial stability.
We want the Biennale to become a permanent, sustainable, internationally recognised and respected initiator of an exciting and experimental visual arts programme of film, sound and performance. We are excited about the next edition of the festival which will be the 10th edition, marking our 20 year anniversary.
Whitstable Biennale is a registered charity and we fundraise to achieve our ambitious targets. Your support can help us to make a real difference to the delivery of our programme, helping us to remain free to the public and have a direct impact on the careers of artists.
“Working with Whitstable Biennale in the production and exhibition of new work has been the most fruitful and supportive experience in my practice so far. I was able to take a bold leap forward in the realisation of my ideas.” Louisa Martin, The Lighthouse, Whitstable Biennale 2014.
