Declan Clarke
Cologne Overnight (2010)

Horsebridge Arts & Community Centre, Gallery 1
10:00-18:00 Tuesday - Sunday
The Cologne Historical Archive building collapsed in March 2009. It housed the complete history of Cologne city council meetings from 1376 – the most extensive such archive in Europe – and also documents by Napoleon, Hegel and Marx. Three weeks prior to the collapse the writer Heinrich Böll's personal papers had been donated to the Archive. This unfortunate event seems to Declan Clarke perfectly in keeping with Böll and the melancholic dialogue with history, Cologne itself, and rubble or ruins that threads through much of his work.
