The Lasting Image

Sea Cadets Hall

12:00-15:00 Saturday 3 July

Varying between co-operation and obstruction, the work of performance artist Augusto Corrieri has a coercive and buoyant energy. His interventions question the scene, apparatus and reception of theatre. For the Biennale, Corrieri presents The Lasting Image, which plays with the public impact and visual function of advertising posters by staging an exact replica of his own advertisements as a performance-installation that visitors can walk within. Turning an image into an event - and visa versa – there is humor, trickery and also provocation in this work.

Augusto Corrieri is a performance artist, choreographer and writer. After completing his BA in Theatre at Dartington College of Arts, in 2003 he co-founded Deer Park performance company. In 2004 he also joined ‘propeller’, a performance and research collective based in Devon. Working with various distribution formats, since 2005 he has been developing solo works, and he has worked with institutions including Camden Arts Centre (London) and Winchester's Cornershop. In 2009 he was artist in residence at La Casa Encendida (Madrid).
