Artist Lucienne Cole’s work, frequently combining video, sound and live performance, borrows from categories and subcategories of popular music and mass culture. Humorous, playful and sometimes even awkward or embarrassing, there is a stoical and absorbing grace to her interventions. Following a visit to Whitstable, Cole has gathered popular elements of local culture to choreograph a performance in the Bingo Hall. Building through various phases to its finale on the stage of the hall, Cole will be including the music of Prokofiev and The Smiths in her performance. The local Scouts Brass Band, and a nearby bakery, which will be providing ‘happy cakes’ as part of the refreshments, will be assisting. Lucienne Cole has been involved in projects and exhibitions internationally and recently completed a residency at The New Art Gallery, Walsall.
