Façade takes audiences on a journey through contemporary glass architecture, conflating architectural ‘walkthroughs’ of nonexistent buildings with tracking shots over the facades of existing buildings. Narrated by TV news anchor Julia Somerville, featuring archive footage of industrial glass manufacture and interviews with contemporary architects Façade casts ‘glass’ as a transparent subject rendered slowly opaque by the language it engenders.
Façade is a single screen work commissioned by Arts Council England through Film London Artists' Moving Image Network, Whitstable Biennale and Futurecity, with co-support from the BFI National Archive, National Glass Centre, Miller Hare, Pilkington Group Ltd, and Foggo Associates, and will premiere at the 2010 Whitstable Biennale. Phil Coy¹s recent works have shown at the ICA, South London Gallery and Cornerhouse, Manchester.
