Anna Lucas
Things that had stories rubbed out

Garden of 28 Clifton Road
10:00-18:00 Thursday - Sunday
me stairs and a tree
A hosepipe
A van
Tom is sitting next to a wall
Jesus
A maze
Doom and a maze and a hedge
Lots of rocks fall on some grass
This erm, this like computer virus thing
It’s like this tower and you fall into it and you cant get out of it like a trap
Lots of waves crashing against the bar
Experimenting with a new studio-based process, Anna Lucas presents a 16mm film that extends her recent investigations into perception, projection and vision. Lucas worked closely with artist Jo Addison to build a collection of photographs of objects that could be seen as screens or blank spaces. The images were used as a starting point for filming torch-lit visual dialogues with a group of artists. The film uses raw and tentative footage from these shared moments of looking, in which glimpses and fragments of connection may be all that is discernable.
… they all seem to have some relationship to both a projection surface but also with a viewfinder and then the square of the print. So there is a layering of framing and some of them seem to reflect back so they become an empty space even though they are an object within it.
