Screenland
Screenland is an exhibition which explores and expands upon notions of time and space by presenting a selection of contemporary artists' films and videos, including a three screen work by Emily Richardson, at the Whitstable Museum and Gallery. Events accompanying the exhibition include a screening evening at the Horsebridge Centre on the evening of Friday 9 June, and guided dawn and dusk birdwatching walks on Saturday 11 June.
Space Station Sixty-Five - 'Splashdown, Whitstable'
Rachael House and Jo David are artists who run the Space Station Sixty-Five space in London (www.spacestationsixtyfive.com). They are organising a series of weekend events, performances and projections to take place on the tennis courts, to include Sarah Doyle's Popstar Makeovers, Marcia Farquhar's The Cabinet of Horribly Violent Glove Puppets performance and works by Jon Hicks, Daniel Lehan, Kieron Dennis and Justine Pearsall. Pat Wilson: Remote
Pat Wilson is an artist and curator based in Canterbury. She will make digital drawings of various parts of Whitstable, having visitors describe the scene to her remotely, using a radio connection to her 'base';. When they have finished describing the scene she will then tell them where she is, and invite them to come along to see the finished piece.
J S Harvatt & I M Palmer - 'Randomnia'
[www.randomnia.co.uk] is a website made especially for the Whitstable Biennale by graphic novel artists/writers Ian M. Palmer and J.S. Harvatt. This work creates an interface between the traditional graphic novel and web technology - storytelling for the digital age.
Kimmy McHarrie - 'Sportsman Pub Exhibition'
An exhibition of works made in glass, stone and mosaic, at the gourmet Sportsman Pub, Faversham Road in Seasalter. www.kimmymosaics.com
Imogen Noble - 'Small Changes - Fibres in the Landscape'
On Saturday June 10th Imogen Noble will create a time based site specific artwork for the groynes on Whitstable's West Beach using dyed wool fibres. The groyne's tops are crowned with a band of steel, and these will be enhanced with bands of felted fibres, created in situ. Passers by will be invited to create a felt stone to place on these newly crowned groynes. As the tide advances and recedes the new felt crowns and stones will gradually diminish.
Sadie Hennessy - 'British Home Stories'
A mixed media show by Sadie Hennessy about nostalgia, loss and convenience foods at the Coastguards Lookout (Whitstable Tennis Courts). Open every weekend throughout the Biennale.
Gordon Lewns and Nigel Clarke - 'Art on the Harbour'
Gordon Lewns and Nigel Clarke are local artists working in oil, watercolour and acrylic. They will be painting in the open air at Whitstable Harbour on the South Quay on Sunday 11 June from 10am to 5pm, weather permitting.
ArThames - 'Celebrating art of the Thames'
ArThames is a collective of artists inspired by the Thames and its environs, they will be displaying art on the railings and in action at the Whitstable Improvement Trust, on Wednesdays and Saturdays during the Biennale.
Caroline Grant
Caroline Grant will be displaying two large scale paintings, Columba livia and Larus marinus on show at Warehams, 68 Oxford Street, Whitstable CT5 1DG.
Ian Rendell - 'Groynes'
On June 10th and 11th, in view of the current coastal defence work taking place, Whitstable artist Ian Rendall presents a collection of watercolour seascapes, studies and prints celebrating these distinctive timber structures which not only keep the shifting of our beaches in check but also help to give Whitstable its unique character.
